Adam and Eve

The Tempting of Adam and Eve

We all know the story of Adam and Eve. The perfect man and woman created by God and placed in the garden of paradise called Eden where God shared a very special relationship with the two. But even though they had lived in the light of the presence of God with the light of His Shekinah glory all around they were cast out of the garden because of their sin of disobedience. Pure and innocent from sin yet they did forsake it all by giving in to their desires.

You see God had given Adam one command.

Genesis 2: 16-17 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

Satan, the prince of darkness, craftily tempted both man and woman and they fell victim to their own passions and ate of the fruit of the forbidden tree. He tempted Eve who gave in to her lust for the beauty of the fruit and the desire to know what God knew about good and evil (light and darkness). Since sin likes company, she offered Adam a bite of the forbidden fruit. Adam could have refused to eat of the fruit but instead chose to follow his wife in disobedience.

Many think Eve is responsible for it all. Others blame Adam for he knew exactly what command God had given directly to him. Either way both were responsible just as you and I are directly responsible for the choices we make. No one can make you sin. It is your choice.

Because of the darkness of sin, Adam and Eve and all of humanity would suffer the consequences of their sin until God’s plan for salvation came to save us. God offered a blood sacrifice of an animal in order to make clothing of animal skin to hide their naked bodies. He would use the blood sacrifice of His Son to cover the sins of mankind.

In Genesis, God made reference to the one who would be coming to earth to save us.

Genesis 3: 15 “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

Through Jesus Christ, God would provide a way for humanity to be saved.

1 John 3:8 “The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.”

And thus began the battle of darkness vs. light for the souls of man.
